HELP PROMOTE PENNSYLVANIA STEEL
U.S. Steel’s Mon Valley Works is an integrated steelmaking operation serving customers in the appliance, automotive, metal building and home construction industries.
U.S. Steel announced in 2019 its plans to make an approximately $1.5 billion investment to upgrade its Mon Valley Works. The investment will make Mon Valley Works one of the most advanced steel mills in the United States and the central source of base material for high-strength, lightweight steels, including innovative products specifically for the automotive sector, while ensuring that thousands of good-paying jobs remain right here in Pittsburgh.
Importantly, the upgrades, which will include a cogeneration plant to convert a portion of coke oven gases into electricity to power the facilities, are expected to contribute to further improved environmental performance by reducing emissions of particulate matter, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides.
Contact the Allegheny County Health Department and urge it to support U. S. Steel’s Installation permits for its new endless casting and rolling facility at the Edgar Thomson Plant and its new cogeneration facility at the Clairton Plant.
