Pennsylvania Steel Alliance Launches “Careers Built on Steel” Initiative with RK Mellon Foundation Grant

The Pennsylvania Steel Alliance has received the RK Mellon Foundation’s “Emerging Industries” Economic Development Grant, a multi-partner initiative designed to build a modern, inclusive steel industry and supply chain workforce. Working in partnership with the Southwest Corner Workforce Development Board, Penn State Greater Allegheny, Carnegie Mellon University, and local chambers and labor unions, the Steel Alliance launched a comprehensive program, “Careers Built on Steel”, designed to promote career opportunities in the steel industry and steel supply chain. US Steel’s Mon Valley Works will be a key focus of the campaign.

On December 11th, the Alliance convened a stakeholder meeting at Penn State Allegheny Campus to discuss “Careers Built on Steel”. The meeting brought together job trainers, steel companies, suppliers, and union leaders to discuss industry potential. The meeting was well-received by attendees, and we will be convening additional stakeholder meetings in the coming months.
