BUILD America 250 Act introduced in House

The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee yesterday formally introduced the forthcoming five-year surface transportation reauthorization bill, named the BUILD America 250 Act, or Building Unrivaled Infrastructure and Long-term Development for America’s 250th (H.R. 8870). The 1,005-page bill outlines proposed investments in roads, bridges, transit, rail, and highway and motor carrier safety programs.

US Steel has $536 million annual impact for Alabama

An economic impact study has found that U.S. Steel generates $536.2 million in total economic impact for Alabama. The study, which looks at figures from the 2024 fiscal year, said the company supported 1,963 jobs statewide, and contributed $12.4 million in state and local tax revenue.

A slew of challenges to established incumbents and party-backed candidates yielded mixed results in Tuesday’s legislative primary elections. Half of the seats in the Pennsylvania Senate and the entire state House are on the ballot this year, and both chambers are considered to be flippable. Democrats hold the state House by a one-vote margin, while Republicans have a four-seat edge in the state Senate.

Nippon Steel to take direct control of U.S. Steel’s European subsidiary

United States Steel Corp.’s European subsidiary will be moving to direct ownership by Nippon Steel Corp., the world’s fourth-largest steelmaker that acquired U.S. Steel last June. Nippon Steel announced Wednesday that U.S. Steel Košice, which is based in Slovakia, will be transferred from U.S. Steel ownership to Nippon Steel ownership on Oct. 1 with a new name Nippon Steel Slovakia. U.S. Steel has owned the 61-year-old company, the largest steelmaker in Central and Eastern Europe, since 2000.
